We based in the Wairarapa, and we’re pool owners too! With over 20 years of experience in the industry, we found the council inspection process fell well short of our needs. At one stage we waited 12 months for an inspection, due to calendar issues and inflexibility.

Pool Protect NZ is an independent company that specialises in swimming pool and spa pool inspections, that satisfy council rules and regulations.

We are not part of any Council and we do not get distracted with any other types of inspection.

We use state of the art tools, photography and measurement and provide a complete end-to-end service which includes a report to you and the compliance Report to Council.

If your pool doesn’t meet current standards during our visit, we provide you with 4 weeks to rectify any issues before we re-inspect and, hopefully, grant you the seal of approval. Often, there are simple fixes we can assist with for a small fee after the inspection, which can save you time.

Why do I need to get an inspection?

As of 1 January 2017, all residential swimming pools and small heated (spa) pools need to be inspected and certified that they are safe every three years.

Do temporary pools need to comply?

Yes, it doesn’t matter if your pool is temporary or transportable it still must comply.

What is a small heated (spa) pool?

It is a pool with a surface area less that 5m2 and is designed for therapeutic or recreational use. (HINT how to measure your pool surface. Use a tape measure and measure two adjoining sides of your pool, on the inside where the water and sides meet. Then multiply them together e.g. 2m x 2m = 4m2)

When do I need to get an inspection?

Government require you to get one done every 3 years and your local Council manages this. This can be triggered by the date on your Building Consent, Certificate of Compliance or Exemption. If those don’t exist then it can be triggered from when your Territorial Authority (Council) knew about your pool.

What happens in 3 years time?

We will notify you before your next inspection and re-inspect your pool(s) based on the information we already have for you.
